Swedish company ABB to power Bangalore metro rail

Swedish power gaint ABB won a turnkey project for the first phase of Bangalore Metro Rail Transit System(MRTS), which is expected to be flagged off in December 2012.


News reports said that the system comprises of two main lines covering 42 km with about 1/5 th of it underground, will serve around 41 stations. While ABB will design, supply, install and commission 4 substations (each rated at 66/33 kilovolts) that receive and distribute electricity along with auxiliary and traction sub-stations, it will also supply products like transformers, capacitors, relays and the associated cables apart from switch gear.


Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd(BMRCL)'s MRTS is aimed at providing an efficient urban rail network that will help decongest the roads of Bangalore and improve accessibility of the commercial zones.
Apart from this deal, ABB technologies is already helping to power Delhi,Mumbai,Kolkata urban rail networks.
